I think Russell Crowe has more range and is the better actor.

    I, too, prefer Russell Crowe.

As much as I love Kevin Spacey, and I mean I really admire him as one of the greatest actors working today, I think Russel Crowe is just a little bit better because he's better at conveying his character's emotions to the audience. Before I saw The Insider, I probably would have said Spacey.

I like Spacey too, but don't feel he can hold a candle to Crowe who has an intensity that not a lot of actors have. He has a chance to be considered one of the major actors of our generation, imo.

Good question. Spacey is more mannered, polished, and, some would say, "affected." Crowe is more "method" in his approach. They are very different actors, but I look at it this way: Hypothetically, imagine if each actor had played the other's major roles. Imagine Spacey in Romper Stomper, The Insider, Gladiator, etc., and Crowe in Glengarry, Usual Suspects, American Beauty, etc. Who would have been more believable as those characters? The simple way of looking at it is this: If Spacey had played the tough, simmering bullying cop in L.A. Confidential instead of Crowe, I don't think it would have been believable. However, if Crowe had played the smarmy, conniving pretty boy in the same movie, I think it's possible that he would have done an even better job than Spacey. Edge to Crowe. Greater range equals better actor.

Kevin Spacey, although if I were deciding who is the better actor using factors other than just acting ability, I might come up with a different answer. [IMG]

That's a tough one. Crowe has been highly believable in such disparate roles seemingly effortlessly channelling mannerisms/accents and so on; therefore I'd vote for Mr. Crowe.

    Spacey by FAR...

    Swimming with Sharks
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
    Usual Suspects

Sounds like a bit of range IMHO.

Exactly, these two post sum up the things that convince me Russell Crowe is the better actor.
