I threw Jurassic Park III in today and noticed that on my receiver (Yamaha rx-v1200, couple weeks old), that it switched to 6.1 matrix surround. I had it on auto. I switched the 6.1 off and on the front panel the rear center surround was still lit up. I thought this was only a 5.1 mix. Am I missing something here?

Jurassic Park 3 has a Dolby Digital Surround EX soundtrack, and the disc is flagged as EX, so your amp is detecting the soundtrack configuration correctly.

Is it also flagged as DTS ES Matrix?

It's odd because I've never read about it being EX/ES. Not on the package, here, or any dvd review sites I frequent.

Jurassic Park 3 is DTS-ES matrix encoded and flagged as such.

Look carefully on the back cover in the data boxes and you'll notice the back surround box that is outlined, whereas the discrete channels are solid. That's the only indication on the package.
