Aside from the obvious ethical concerns about doctoring images that are being presented as factual, this guy is a complete amateur, no wonder he got caught! Check out the photos in the story and tell me that the doctored image doesn't look completely fake - the patterning in the smoke is far too symetrical and is an obvious clone job
.

Just goes to show you can't believe everything you see reported these days, but in this case the guy is just bad.

Reminds me of the time the NY Daily News came under fire after illustrating a report of a handhsake between then Pres Clinton and Castro, at the annual UN Summit with a doctored front page "picture" of the moment, without indicating it was a fake.

Moral of this story, "If you are going to doctor news photos, don't hire the talentless Photoshop chimps who do all of the DVD covers."

Yeah, Al Jazeera is so concerned with getting the news out, they'll give you "coming at you live" shots of bodies being pulled from wreckage every hour on the hour. The fact they show the same bodies every time doesn't seem to matter.;)

Actually, I would call a million deaths a World War, a Holocaust or a Communist-Socialist cleansing (and that's only in the past century). I'm not too fond of modeling my social commentary on that of Josef Stalin. YMMV.

LMAO! That's so dumb! What version of Photoshop does he have? 2.0???

I mean, anyone knows, if you're going to fake clouds,
you have to use the pencil tool!

DUH!!!!

Indeed. Still, inflating the body count (if indeed it has been) only has so much propaganda value.

Sure, that's why focussing on single deaths is so much more dramatic and rivets the public.

Aren't we at, or close to, the end of photographic evidence being "proof" of anything, especially if the source is digital rather than being a photographic negative?

I think photography has pretty much lost its proof value, even from negatives. There really is no form for supplying undisputable proof of anything anymore - video can be altered, photos can be altered, and written evidence has always been subject to bias or deception. The truth is out there, but good luck trying to prove it.

IIRC, a few cameras will digitally sign their raw images. I think they're aimed at the forensic market.

Although digital cameras encode EXIF data in the raw images, if it is data, it can be altered.

Well the top image shows to much deepness in the smoke like it was airbrushed onto the image, man that is the worse (mate painting) I’ve ever seen! :D

What is really bad about that job is that the region that was cloned is patterned, and the final effect is obvious. A good artist could create the same effect using the same tools and make it look completely real - that is the scary part.
