I've not been able to find any reviews of Josie and the Pussycats. Was this any good? I'm debating getting it.
    Thanks

I really enjoyed Josie, and I'd go so far as to say it's my favorite movie of 2001 to date. The trailers (which were indescribably bad) don't do it justice.
Most of the reviews of the movie out there have been pretty negative, though comments on the DVD's presentation and supplemental material were generally positive.

You can get this disc this weekend for $16.99 at Best Buy if you received one of the 15% off 'preferred customer' coupons. I picked it up this afternoon and plan on watching it tonight.

Um I actually enjoyed it as well. Gotta love any movie with Tara Reid running around dressed like that, but it actually was not bad.
    While we are making admisions...

For those who liked this movie, be wary. I just saw over at the Yahoo Variety page that a Josie & the Pussycats-Director's Cut just got rated PG. It appears our old friends universal are back to their old tricks regarding mulitple releases.

Got this disc for my daughter who loves it. I will admit that I took a liking to it the longer I watched. I then realized that I had "missed the joke" early on and failed to see the movie as having satirical elements. In my defense, I wasn't expecting much, so was only half-watching/listening at first. But did get drawn into the film.
As we were watching the extras, I did notice that the audio commentary was a few seconds delayed. Most noticeable when pointing out people who were last on-screen a few seconds previously before the scene shifted. Haven't played the disc again to see if the delay is repeated, but will ask if anyone else has noticed this delay in the commentary track?

I really enjoyed Josie and the Pussycats. I thought the humor was dead on and seemed to work really well for what it is.
Rachael Leigh Cook and Tara Reid were pretty good in it.

Thanks for the link, Chad. Strange that a director's cut would get a lower rating than the theatrical version.
What's interesting is that the PG rating is for "language and sensuality" while the PG-13 was for "language and mild sensuality". Archie Comics had a brief rant about "mild sensuality" at http://www.archiecomics.com/josies_h...template2.html , and I agree with them.

At least I'm not alone in liking this film.
I thought it was a pretty good 90 minute romp. The little inside jokes that you don't see the first time around are worth the price of the dvd. I Especially liked the "can't hardly wait was way underrated" sublimanal message. That was good

I found the satire in the film far too laboured, which made the film a lot less fun than it could have been. It had its moments, but there were just too fee of them. Sure, the film itself is not terrible, but it's a long way from these guys work on A Very Brady Sequel, which *was* good satire. i also think the people responsible for Rachel Leigh Cook's hair and make-up should be shot; she looks like she has jaundice. For me, a once only rental.

I just watched this last night and thought it was awful. I appreciated the satirical point of view but most of the time it just didn't work or wasn't very funny.
The only bright spot for me was Parker Posey, oh and the Metallica concert thing [IMG]

Watched it tonight, and enjoyed it & the music. Debating the Soundtrack now. Their 'songs' reminded me of my favorites like Juliana Hatfield, Lisa Loeb, and Jill Sobule.
The subliminal messages in the movie thing was funny, as well as the Metallica concert. That was classic.
Lots of small cameos from American Pie & Road Trip actor(s) as well as my favorite current 'my age' actor of Seth Green.

Let's put it this way - my sister (who is in the prime demographic for this movie) thought it was sucktacular.

This is absolutely THE BEST LOOKING DVD that I have ever seen!
As for the film ...take it as you like, but I have never seen the equel of this transfer. Astounding color and detail. DAMN! I hope that all future Universal discs look this good.
I don't know how reviewers could give perfect marks to 'The Mexican' and not to this title. You should give this disc a spin if you are into quality visual presentation.
Amazing! Better transfer than Toy Story 2 or Dinosaur.
All of you videophiles should seriously consider giving this one a look.

Have very mixed feelings. Rachel was incredible and Tara very cute.
I was very disappointed that it had very little to do with the cartoon. And they handled the original supporting characters so badly that at one point someone had to say they were there because they were in the comic book.
But, an attack on phony marketing from a band that doesn't exist??
BTW Shame it died at the box office, I was looking forward to the in Outerspace sequel. [IMG]
