Checked for threads on this subject and came up empty. Has anyone purchased this collection and have an opinion on the contents? Seems like a reasonable start for a JW collection.

Rio Bravo is an excellent transfer. Warners have already flagged their intention to have another go at both The Searchers and Stagecoach probably for a box set release in 2006; I don't own The Cowboys for the simple reason that AFAIK it's not a very good transfer, but maybe someone else who owns that disc can comment.

If you can't wait, it's cheap enough - certainly the movies within are all terrific.

Personally, I'd stick with the 2 "Best Of Collections" from Paramount for now and wait for the expected anniversary reissues of 'The Searchers' and 'Stagecoach' which I'm sure will be repackaged in an updated box set along with 'Rio Bravo' and 'The Cowboys' and hopefully restored prints of 'Fort Apache' and 'She Wore A Yellow Ribbon...' as well.

The current DVD of She Wore a Yellow Ribbon looks incredible.

I'm holding out for the new Searchers and Stagecoach as well. Warners has enough coming out already this year to keep me entertained, so I can wait for these to get the SE upgrade.

I'm wondering, how do you find out if they are going to be re-released? I checked the WB site and they have no mention of this?

I'd agree with that statement...most likely the finest looking restore of a 55 year old film, currently on the market.
