A friend of mine was able to interview John Carpenter by phone four days ago. Carpenter has just (within the last week or so) recorded new commentary tracks for THEY LIVE and PRINCE OF DARKNESS. When JC was asked if he might work with Roddy Piper or Kurt Russell again, he indicated that he and Piper had recorded the THEY LIVE track together. You can assume that both of these will come out from Universal some time in the future, now that the rights have reverted back to them from Image Entertainment.

I would absolutely love to have a special edition DVD of Prince Of Darkness to replace my bare bones Image disc. That is one of my favorite John Carpenter films.

PRINCE OF DARKNESS SE?!! YES! The Creep Factor on that movie is high on my list. Remix? Anyone? I'm not one of those "original soundtrack" guys, give me 5.1 anytime!

I hope Prince Of Darkness SE comes soon. I'd like to retire my VHS copy once and for all.

SEs for Prince and They Live.

Kick ass. Guess I need to start thinking about selling the originals.

Man, I can't wait for that The Fog DVD either.

This isn't quite a software question, but it does concern J.C.-

Does anyone know of any projects he's got in place for new films?

New projects? I still want my 4 bucks back for Ghost of Mars. I can't believe this is that same JC I once admired...

Actually, only my brother lost his 4 bucks on Escape From LA which is how I dodged it. I wasnt ready to throw in the towel after Vampires. At least it balanced its silliness with gratuitous nudity (Laura Palmer nude!) and graphic violence.
I'm still at fool me twice [IMG]

I actually enjoyed Vampires but I've so far avoided like the plague Escape From L.A. (whose existance at all I still deny) and Ghosts of Mars.

I can confirm this as well. I'm wrapping up an interview with Sandy King, JC's producer and wife, for www.amateurhometheater.com (should be up by the end of the week) and these new commentary tracks came up.

Yeah, I liked Vampires, too. I also enjoyed the end of Escape From L.A.. The rest of the movie was fairly silly, but the end of the film from him flying out of L.A. through to the credits had that cool J.C. touch that I love. Good or bad, if I get that J.C. feel in a film, I'm all for it.
...which is why I didn't like Ghosts of Mars. It was just bad. It didn't seem like a J.C. movie at all; it was just another bad sci-fi attempt that could've been directed by anybody. That's why I'm curious about a new project. I want to see him pull himself back up. Call me an optimist. [IMG]

A little off topic but American Cinematheque is having a tribute to John Carpenter this month (Egyptian Theatre in the Los Angeles area).
They are screening a bunch of his films and he will be present at many of the screenings to discuss them.
Just thought I would post a heads up.
    Check it out.

Put me down as another person who likes Vampires.

In fact, I LOVE the film. When I first saw it, I didn't think too highly of it. But after repeated viewings (thank you DVD!) I've come to an enlightened state where I don't just find Vampires enjoyable, it really is a GREAT film.

As for Ghosts of Mars, that movie was plain crap. John Carpenter is one of my favorite directors, but Ghosts of Mars is TERRIBLE. Maybe if I listened to the commentary I'd have a better appreciation for the film, but I really don't want to have to watch it again, it just needs to sit on my shelf.

Looking back at recent history, perhaps they should ban the word "Mars" from appearing in any future film titles...
