Warner Home Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Joey: The Complete First Season for 25th July 2005 priced at £49.99. Everyone’s favourite ‘friend’ can now be welcomed into households every night, as the DVD goes on sale as soon as the series broadcast ends on Five.

Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Matt LeBlanc reprises his Friends role as the comical Joey, leaving behind New York City for the slightly more glamorous location of Hollywood. In his never-ending quest to achieve his goal of becoming a renowned actor, Joey is joined by his sister Gina played by Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos) and her son, Michael - Paulo Costanzo (Road Trip).

All 24 episodes from Season 1 will be presented in Anamorphic Widescreen on this three-disc set. Details on extra features are TBC.

This was originally listed as a 6-disc set on some sites, which would have been ridiculous. However, a 3-disc set for that price is even worse. I like the series, but not that much. I will wait for a much cheaper R1 release (which will surely happen).

Wow, I like Joey and all and will definitely buy season 1 whenever its released in the states...providing its a reasonable price which I'm sure it will be.

However, I'd much rather see Friends season 10.

I second that. I'm starting to get impatient. lol. Seriously though, it'll be great to finally finish it off. As for "Joey", based on the handful of episodes I've seen, I really didn't like it. I was actually disapoointed by it.

You know it's gotta be cheap for the studios to brng out these new shows, but we keep getting stuff like this and still no Get Smart, Mission Impossible, Wild Wild West, Odd Couple, Time tunnel, Voyage tot he bottom of the seas Etc.

I saw all except one of the episodes in widescreen and I gotta say that while they definitely protected for widescreen (i.e. no visible equipment etc.), I don't think they ever composed for it. The framing is just screaming 4:3, so if an R1 release comes, I'm curious what AR it's gonna be.

I'm surprised that as famous as Matt LeBlanc has become, Fox hasn't tried to capitalize on it by releasing his Married With Children spinoff shows Top Of The Heap and Vinnie & Bobby.

IMO, Joey started off slowly but about 3/4 of the way through the season perhaps around episode 16 is when it really started to get entertaining.

Friends season 10 will be out by Christmas according to Warner from the chat back in March. It would be good to have Joey season 1 by the start of season 2.

I wonder if we will get the alternate version of the pilot with a different actress playing Alex. I also wonder if they will be supersized? I prefer the DVD longer cuts of Friends than the syndicated or first run versions.

I just hope the R1 box won't be as goofy looking as the one above.

    I am a bit gassy ... how'd you know?

I can't wait till According to Jim comes out too.

That and Joey make a great double bill.

    Long live Joey.
