I have the twin JL 12" Powerwedge that I will be extracting from my SUV. It's being powered by a HC sub amp. My plan is to integrate it with my HT setup. I have a DC power adaptor to power the amp.

Has anyone tried using this kind of setup?

I would be surprised if it worked well at all.

Car audio subs tend to be short throw. Long throw is really what you want for HT...

High power amps are a dime a dozen these days. It is very easy to pick up a 500-1000watt amp for under $500 even $300. If you don't want to buy a mega watt amp and use what you have then you could do so, but a home/pro amp to me looks a lot nicer, probably will work better too. Its ultimately up to you and I have heard of people use a similar setup. I would also suggest getting the T/S parametres and designing a box more sutible to HT enviroment.

Some of the newer auto sub drivers have very high Xmas

For example: the Adire Brahma has 28mm one way linear according to Adire.
