The trailer is up and is very different from what I was expecting. I was afraid of another Ben & Jen disaster, but this looks to have very little Jen Does she die giving birth?
and more of a Ben the struggling single father. Can you imagine having George Carlin as your grandfather? It seems to be a big departure from the crude (but funny) nature of Clerks, Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The sappy story shouldn't be as controversial as Dogma, but it may turn off some Kevin Smith fans. I can hear fan-boys shouting "Sell-out!" as I type this.

I really liked the trailer. Looks different from his previous works (obviously), but I'm eager to see what else he can do. Hope he does retain some of his trademark humor and dialogue though.

Kevin Smith can do what he wants as far as I'm concerned. I'll be there.

I'm not quite sure why what happens to Lopez's character is considered such a big spoiler. It happens a few minutes into the film and everything that comes after that is BASED on that turn of events. The whole plot hinges on it!

    Why are we spoil-boxing this?

Did anyone spoilbox the fact that Mel Gibson's wife

    DIES!

    in Signs?

I know I would have, before Signs came out. The way this movie's scripted (although not now advertised), it was apparently supposed to be a shock. They even went so far toShoot fake J-Lo footage with the girl
    for the ShoWest trailer.

Yeah, but they changed their mind seeing the product. I like the trailer; and I like the dialog and production it looks like it could be. I will definitely be there.

Will we get any "Star Wars" references?

    Sincerely,

    John Kilduff...

It wouldn't be a Kevin Smith movie without "Star Wars" references.

    or Jaws

    or

    Indy Jones.....

See I'm curious as well. I wanna see how much of a departure this film will be for KS from his previous films.

Also, I hope the Ben/Jen backlash doesn't happen either.
I wanna see this movie do well.

    Biggest departure:

    The movie is rated PG-13!

Seriously though, this looks like a great film, and I've always liked Affleck...so I am so there!

That IS the polite thing to do. Some people, myself included, don't really like having things revealed before I see it. I do, however, enjoy hearing a little news about movies before they come out, hence... SPOILER TAGS. Just because you want people to know things, doesn't mean they always want to hear them.

I understand and agree - which is why I think they changed the advertising. But still, when I first read it I was pissed, so I just wanted to be considerate to others. YMMV.

I just don't see what is so offensive about Jennifer the actress. Her role in Out of Sight was enough proof to me that she has solid acting skills when given the right material I even thought her role in that film was one of the better performances of '98. She has done quite a few so-so films but this is usually due to poor choices in scripts, not her ability as an actress. Maybe I wouldn't have used as many eye rolls as Vickie [IMG] but personally I am getting tired of people not separating her life in the public eye from her film work.

EDIT: Oh you got rid of the eye rolls. Vickie, do you really think that is fair to people who are trying to stay spoiler free for the film?

For some reason I think the only reason people are considering it a spoiler is because Affleck's wife is played by a big name actress. If it was a relative unknown I doubt it would even be considered a spoiler.

In this case, I don't care. JonZ has shown me the way. This movie is in danger of derailing before it even opens just because of the anti-Lopez lemmings. I'm usually very aware of spoilers, and respectful of people who want them, but in THIS case, for THIS movie, for something that happens at the beginning of the movie, getting people out of this "I'm not going to go see it because I don't like Lopez" mindset is far more important.

And yes, I agree, Lopez was GREAT in Out of Sight, Selena and a few other movies. Her private life will never take that away from her.
