Listening to the NY jazz station WBGO the other day I came across a female jazz singer who appears to be somewhat new on the scene. I was absolutely loving what I was hearing. She was sining John Coltrane's Afro Blue. I'm usually not warm on vocals applied to instrumental tunes, but she really made it her own. Strong bass accompaniment, a simple but bold arrangement, and of course her voice and command of the arrangement made it work- real well. Then she did one of her own songs which I liked as well. Then I had to get out of my car.

I think the DJ said her name was Lisa Wright? But I'm not sure how to spell that. I did a search for that name in allmusic.com and came up with some rock singer. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'd like to learn more about her.
