As we now know, the Region 1 release of Schindler's List has turned out to be a flipper (and has poor packaging quality as well). I'm returning my copy unopened.

The Japanese edition is to be released on 23 April. They appear to be releasing the same choice of either the special presentation box with various extras included or a standard version.

However, does anyone know whether the layout of the film will be identical in Japan, i.e. still a flipper? Japan sometimes do their own thing with these releases. For example, their release of 'Gangs Of New York' had the whole film on one dual-layer disc whereas the Region 1 version was split (and in a horrible place as well). The quality of that film didn't suffer in the Japanese version, so I'm wondering whether they might do something equally sensible with Schindler's List.

    2 discs.

BTW, the Korean set is 2 discs too.

All I can say is that usually when they put out 2 disc sets in Japan with a movie that long the movie is split too.

I don't consider the packaging of the R1 to be poor - its really rather elegant!

I was probably a bit premature in asking the question originally, as the Japanese issue is only being released on the 23rd. Maybe we can find out about the film layout once it's available.

The Brazil R4 version is coming out on 04/30 and it's a 2 disc set, no flipper. There's also the limited edition with the CD soundtrack and other stuff.

I'd just get the Korean 2 disc set. That is what I ended up getting. It is a region 2 and 3 set. I always look at whether it has Japanese subtitles or audio on the release. That tells me that it will also be region 2.

Yes, the movie is split across 2 DVDs (or is a flipper) in all regions. If you want a 190 minute movie in DTS and with decent picture quality, this is what you get.

Yes, as Julian says, it is split across 2 discs.

I don't understand the issue with the flipper? If you spread it out over two discs it is essentially the same thing. No matter what there will be a pause. Is it so demanding to have to get up and flip the disc?? If you jammed that movie on to one dual layer disc it would look like crap!!!

Flippers are inherently more fragile. Finger prints, scratches, etc. Plus, I don't want to guess which side is which with the little "A" and "B" printed on the inner ring of the disc. I prefer the 2 disc format.
