GREG!!!! You're alive!!!
Last we heard from you you were talking about the upcoming opening of your new golf shop, but when Hank posted the question of when the opening was going to be we never heard back. Obviously it sounds like you already had the opening?
I hope all is well and you will find time to join us on one of our many Austin Movie Nights!, so far they have been quite a lot of fun and quite diverse. Lately we have been on a Sci-Fi kick which will likely last up until the release of Minority Report on DVD a couple weeks from now.
How has the world of gaming on the big screen been? Have you tried GTA: Vice City yet? I'm not the least bit into violent or shoot'em up style games, but I must say this game is absolutely the most entertaining game I have ever played. Frankly GTA:VC is really about a dozen different games all in one. It has a flight simulator where you can even pilot several different kinds of helicopters and even a sea plane. It has countless varieties of car simulators including a NASCAR like race, a Destruction Derby style event (where the last car running wins), it has Motorcycle racing, Motocross racing, it has its own version of "Crazy Taxi", it also has a game where you are a pizza delivery boy driving a Vespa scooter around town - HILARIOUS! So much more, and all of that is only scratching the surface. Its open architecture allows for gamers to pretty much play the game any way they want without feeling they must follow one particular path. Truly, I can't say enough about this game, it blows me away the amount of effort that obviously went into the development of this game. Definitely check it out!
Any way, great to see you are alive and well and I look forward to our next meeting!

Hey Nils

Yup we are open and jumping. Keep and eye on the Statesman for our ads. I'll be running some more the week of the 16th. My shop is actually not to far from your casa. Just straight down 620 and left to the Bee Caves, hwy 71 split. My shop backs up to the Jack Brown Cleaners. Come by and I'll put you on the ultimate video game. We have a laser based swing analyser hooked up to a Dell computer.

I am slowly getting to play the x-box a bit. The brother in-law and I have been having late night golf tournaments playing Outlaw Golf, the players have a composure rating and if you shank a shot you drop into a bad mental state making the game hard to play but a quick way to get out of the slump is to beat-up your caddie. If you deliver a good beating you get back in the zone. After a few beers this gets even funnier.

I got bad news about GTA. I was checking gamespot.com and they show that it was supposed to come out for xbox but that Sony won't let that happen. Dang.

The wife got me Jedi Starfighter last week for our anniversary, (also she gave me a cool new golf bag, I wonder where she got it.) Jedi is pretty cool for a flight sim.

I have asked Santa for Medal of Honor. This ought to be pretty cool in the theater.

Later
Greg

I'll try and swing by the shop tomorrow if you are going to be around. Send me your number via email and I'll call you before I head over.

As for GTA:VC, you'll just have to come over and get yourself a dose of the best game yet to be made as far as I can tell. If you get hooked you can always pick-up a PS2 for less than $170 now - or rent one (but that might end up being more expensive as you can play GTA:VC for hours upon hours and just barely scratch the surface of what it has to offer. Seriously, you have to find time to come over one night and check it out.

Looks like we're settling in on January 18 for the meet. As the date draws nearer, we'll need to decide what we're doing for lunch that day. If we have lunch out, it should be in central Austin or the north suburbs (Pflugerville/Round Rock).

Small world, Greg -- I drive by your golf shop nearly everyday! Will definitely have to swing by (hah, I'm very punny) and check it out. Outlaw golf is a blast! FYI, I've got a friend on my softball team that works for Microsoft Games and my brother works for EA so I can get most Xbox games for $20, if they're in stock at the company stores. Let me know if there is anything yall want me to pick up for you.
This weekend, two buddies and I are going to check out the new Infocus X1 DLP projector. The dealer we're demoing from said that if we had 3 or more people buying them, he'd offer a discount from the $1599 price. My buddies are both ready to pull the trigger if they like what they see. I'm steadfastly holding out until I finish (which means I have to start) my dedicated theater room. I don't want to thread hijack, so email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Pong is the bomb. Dibbs on the left side slider.
Hey Chad
Stop by anytime, Nils and Hank surprised me the other day and I almost set the hook on some new irons for Hank, but I only carry down to senior flex and not elderly.:D
I will have to take you up on the game offer. I don't have many right now.
Thanks
Colin
Is there a Fudruckers up near you? Those are pretty good places where you can pull some tables together and be loud.

Greg -

There are 2 Fuddrucker's within a short drive of my place. One at Anderson & Mopac (near High Fidelity), and another along I-35.

We've already done Fuddrucker's as a HT meet lunch spot. I'm more inclined to suggest Rudy's BBQ (even though it's further from my place).

I'm thinking of the one at US-183 and Duval. The only other one I know of is on TX-360, and that's kind of far away from my place...

Time to give this thread a *BUMP* so we don't forget about it. No new posts since December 18 about the next Austin meet? Must have been some busy holidays for everyone...

ObHT: I got a bunch of DVDs for X-mas; my favorite so far is a set of music videos by Enigma. This DVD has it all - unique music, interesting cinematography (optical and digital effects, time-lapse and backward film techniques), sex (to a soft "R" level, not pornographic), and special effects (people floating through cities, among other things).

Methinks Colin has been hitting the holiday eggnog pretty hard. Congrats on your Christmas gift DVD's!;)
I just bought "The Producers" special edition. A Mel Brooks film and highly thought of. Also, "The Big Sleep" with Humphrey and Bacall. Two versions on one disk. If we get into a crime/private eye film noire series somtime, I'd like to include it.

Hey. How 'bout the next meet take place on my lap! Santa brought me a Panasonic Palm DVD/audio player for xmas. And the wife got me a sweet Total Airhead headphone amp. I've never been able to block out the bickering of my two kids this well without the use many drinks.

See you at the meet.

Greg
