Anybody that's been a fan of film noir will remember the actress Jan Sterling, who made several films of that genre. I really hope Billy Wilder's "Ace in the Hole" gets released along with "The High and the Mighty". May she RIP.

    That's too bad.

By sheer coincidence, one of Sterling's fun, B-level flicks, WOMEN'S PRISON (1955, Columbia), is running several times on the Encore Mystery channel in April (I believe this hasn't aired on American cable TV in over a decade --I think Cinemax last ran it in 1989-90). It's also worth seeing if you enjoy watching Ida Lupino go psychotic (and who doesn't?).

April 2004 airdates for WOMEN'S PRISON:

    Agee,

You beat me to the quote. What a fantastic movie, that hasn't received a fair shake because it was a box-office flop 50 years ago.

The first time I saw her was in the 1956 version of 1984. Then The High and the Mighty (may it come to DVD, please).

I'm certain she was also in several episodes of TV series I liked, notably The Virginian (may it come to DVD, please).

One tends to forget people and they become passive memories in one's mind. Seeing her picture above, brought most of it back immediately for me. A striking actress.

    May she rest in peace.

Jan Sterling was also memorable in the 1950 WB movie CAGED, which happily is coming to DVD sometime soon, according to the recent chat. R.I.P.
