Of course most people will think of Darth Vader first. But not me. To me, James Earl Jones was first and foremost Mufasa.

I've seen Mufasa die more times than I could possibly count, and I know I will watch it regularly for the rest of my life. So it shouldn't really be a shock for James Earl Jones to also have died. But it still sucks because this one is for real.

It is amazing how impactful Jones was as Mufasa even though the character has a relatively limited amount of screen time in a film that runs 88 minutes total.

Jones had a long life and an amazing career. The world is richer because he shared his immense talent with us. We are fortunate that he left so many screen performances that can be watched again and again for the rest of time. But it's still not long enough.

Long live the King.

I was fortunate enough to have seen James Earl Jones on Broadway as OTHELLO with Christopher Plummer,What an experience.

So, another one bites the dust. Seems like this is happening far to frequently.

Such a great actor, deeply impressive voice - a terrible loss.

RIP good sir!!!

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if the greatest villain voice in film history was suddenly silenced.

What a great actor and what a gigantic personality he always displayed! To say he will be missed is a supreme understatement. R.I.P.

I thought that JEJ was great in a guest star role on Frasier as a blind man in a retirement home that Frasier is visiting.

RIP Mr Jones.

I loved your sly performance as King Jaffe Joffer in Coming to America.

One of my dad’s favourite lines from the film:

“Hello, King?”

The obvious is as Darth Vadar but also his performance as Thulsa Doom in Conan The Barbarian and Admiral Greer in Hunt For Red October. And who could forget that voice that stood out from all the rest.

RIP James Earl Jones

The Man (1972) | James Earl Jones is the First Black President

The Man is a 1972 American political drama film directed by Joseph Sargent and starring James Earl Jones. Jones plays Douglass Dilman, the President pro tempore of the United States Senate, who succeeds to the presidency through a series of unforeseeable events, thereby becoming both the first African-American president and the first wholly unelected one. The screenplay, written by Rod Serling, is largely based upon The Man, a novel by Irving Wallace. In addition to being the first black president more than thirty-six years before the real-world occurrence, the fictional Dilman was also the first president elected to neither that office nor to the Vice Presidency, foreshadowing the real-world elevation of Gerald Ford by less than twenty-five months. - Wikipedia

I remember a trip with my parents about 30 years ago through the small town of Manistee MI (Way before the Casino ruined it) We saw a few articles about James Earl Jones posted around town. My mom asked a storekeeper why, and she said he grew up very near Manistee and performed at the local theater there and what a kind person he was. Very friendly, and likable.

He made many return trips there throughout his lifetime, speaking to children about the importance of acting.
