Such a wonderful actor. I have had the pleasure of enjoying many of his films from around the time of The Great White Hope. I do not believe that I ever saw a performance that I did not enjoy by Mr. Jones.
Angela Lansbury, James Earl Jones and Boyd Gaines toured Australia in Driving Miss Daisy and the strength and conviction of the performances is still clear in my mind.
RIP, Sir.

What a career! Jones was powerful actor, and of course that infamous voice was a big part of why. A long life, well-lived, but it's still tragic that he's left us. Peace to you, Mr. Jones!

Another legend has passed... the Voice, the Presence, it always commands your attention onscreen and how many other actors voices can clearly be heard in your mind simply by saying their name. An enduring legacy. Starting with Kubrick the rest is history.

Rest in Peace

I just saw this in the Washington Post. My wife and I are crushed.

We love his appearance as himself in The Big Bang Theory episode "The Convention Conundrum" in Season 7. He obviously had a delightful time. Our favorite bit was:

I may have to rewatch that episode this evening in his honor. He and Carrie Fisher seemed to be having a lot of fun doing that episode.

There are voices, and then there are VOICES. JAMES EARL JONES was demonstrably the latter. One could be in another room, but if there was a TV on and one of his fine performances were playing on it - you just KNEW.
Jones wasn't "just" a voice. He was a fine actor who performed on stage and screen. His debut in cinemas was in a little film called DR. STRANGELOVE. Emmy, Tony and Grammy Awards along with an Honorary Oscar.
I had the great pleasure working with Mr. Jones on the TV show House M.D.. Just his presence alone filled those soundstages at Fox. I just wish that week or so had been longer.
RIP

I was so lucky to see him act onstage twice: With Elizabeth Taylor in "Love Letters" at the Paramount Theatre in Hollywood in 2007, and with Vanessa Redgrave in "Much Ado About Nothing" at The Old Vic in London in 2013. He was completely mesmerizing and commanded the stage in both.

What an incredible talent. His legacy will endure forever.

He’s someone who definitely left his mark on the world. More people on earth can probably identify his voice than any other. Beyond his voice work, his physical appearances were always a joy to see as well. He was the classic James Greer in the Jack Ryan movies (1990-1994), and I enjoyed him in Field of Dreams and Matewan (one of my favorites). Lucasfilm has created a digitized version of his voice for future projects, which means his voice will live forever.

And BTW his voice was a result of the stutter he had as a child. It was through voice lessons that he became the voice of authority that we know.

A wonderful actor with a memorable voice. He was so funny in the Big Bang Theory episode that @jayembee posted earlier in this thread. And for we University of Michigan football fans, he has been the voice for a chilling intro before games at The Big House for years (he's an alum). Here is this year's video with his iconic voice over, which I've heard numerous times at the stadium. RIP.

Mr. Jones was class and always a delight to see. As a boxing fan, one of the first roles of his I saw was " The Great White Hope ". While not entirely accurate to Jack Johnson, i was blown away at how he transcend from the articulate man I had seen in interviews, to his arrogant and simple minded version of Jack Johnson. It's hard to believe that the career of such a great man and actor almost wasn't possible because of a stutter. Thankfully with help he was able to overcome it and leave us a legacy of work.

I loved JEJ's role in The Hunt For Red October!

JEJ appeared at our County Community College years ago to open a Joint City/College Library. I attended.
