Well, the Craig films are coming for sure. The rest is speculation, but given that a new movie is on the way, and 4K masters for all the films already exist and are available digitally, it seems like a pretty safe bet.

Agreed.

Make some of that double dip money by putting some out now and then again next year. Either with the new film or when it comes to video in the summer.

Who’s amped for the Craig collection!?

I would say at face value it looks disappointing. They look a slight bump up from the 4K iTunes due to having DTS-MA and Dolby Vision (could they not have been DTS-X though?) but the overall content is a Blu-ray port.

I noticed one packaging shot having ridiculous marketing suggesting it was an extended version of Casino Royale when it really meant to say uncensored version.

I’ve not read Bill’s full review, but his initial comments confirm what’s really going on with these 4K’s – they are 2K upsamples and I would wager quite a few of those classic ones on iTunes are as well.

The question that I’m still asking is when are we going to see better editions of Quantum and Spectre, with commentaries and *that* alternate ending!! Not for a long time it seems.

The quick preview is that the films look very good, a nice uptick from Blu-ray in terms of the video quality, with a restrained HDR grade. For video, I’d score the films as follows… Casino Royale: B+, Quantum of Solace: A-, Skyfall: A, SPECTRE: A. The first two are 2K upsamples, while the latter two are native 4K DIs.

Nope, all of the films from 1962’s Dr. No through 2002’s Die Another Day are true 4K scans. What they do not have is an HDR grade, which is what tends to make 4K pop in the home environment.

I A/B'd them all with the blu-rays earlier this year, my comments are in this thread. I suspected then I was looking at upscales for some of the titles and this is further comments that reflect the same.

I had ordered a month ago from Amazon. Then cancelled last week because of Not Good reviews about the 4K upgrade on Bluray.com and here. Then I changed my mind when I saw some Better reviews. I re ordered 2 days ago at Amazon for $28.00 ! with some Rew Pts. coming 10-24 : )

So if they keep releasing bundles by actor, would they put On Her Majesty’s and Dalton’s two in a bundle and call it the “And the Rest” collection?
I'll take Lazemby over dalton as Bond ! I did not like dalton at all. His 2 movies are Not in my Bond collection. G.L. was a model and chosen as Bond in 1969 because he looked like Sean Connery. Sean did not want to do another Bond movie. dalton became Bond only because at the time Pierce Brosnan was doing the TV series Remington Steele and could Not get out of his contract to do the Bond movie in 1987 after Roger Moore retired as Bond.

From Lazenby’s account in the documentaries, he went after the part, lobbied for it, bought one of Connery’s suits left over at the tailor and bought a Rolex Submariner all to look the part.

Lazenby looked like Sean Connery? I don't see it.
I don't think anyone would mistake him for Connery, but they're the same type - tall, ruggedly masculine with dark hair and eyes. Much more so than Connery and Moore, say.

Not once I saw this literary turd:

That is a quote from someone who doesn't know Yojimbo very well.
Dalton isn't playing 2 rival sides against one another. He undermines a partner of Sanchez, but it isn't Yojimboesque by any stretch of the imagination.
Well, Michael G. Wilson said it was partly inspired by Yojimbo, so take it up with him.

I’m still on the fence with the set. The Craig films are my least watched bond films.

If the other sets were released I would’ve ordered all of them.

bill and others seem to be commenting that this is a test for sales so I do fell compelled to pick up the set. I just haven’t yet.

I shan’t be buying them for the reason of supporting future releases.

I couldn’t give two hoots about the packaging and spare slots but I do buy on value added material and improved transfers.

I can understand some people factor in the packaging when they are buying physical though.

Personally I find these are a con and some of the other titles on iTunes. The margin of difference in the picture on the Craig’s is so fine over already solid blu-rays, it’s almost a pointless upgrade.

Looking forward to a few years time, after they lazily rollout UHD blu-ray ports and upsamples and ring the cash cow once again with definitive editions that are the actual 4k DI’s, hi-res original audio and all that unreleased content in the EON archives.

I'm holding off even if this is a test case. I will buy a complete set in 4K, but if it doesn't happen because of the lack luster sales of the Craig set then it doesn't happen.
