For those that participated in the settlement for the Blu-ray set, redemption codes for the digital copies of Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again are being emailed out now. Mine went to my spam folder, so if you don't see it in your main inbox, check there. Codes are Ultra Violet only (that's who MGM currently supports) and can be redeemed at Vudu.

I just entered my codes too.

I was just commenting that never say never again on blu ray was out of print. I never upgraded my vhs!

The Daniel Craig movies are coming in a set, according to some early retail leaks posted elsewhere. Actor sets seems a good way to do these, hope Brosnan follows soon after.

The Lowry digital restorations of the Bonds were state of the art. Regrettably, Fox cheaped out on remastering them to Blu. After re-compositing several of the extensive Bond documentaries in full HD as added extras, the rest of the Bonds were merely dumped on Blu without an upgrade to image quality, other than the same digital files used to master the DVD's - which, obviously, came first.

I would think the Lowry files were scanned in at better than 2K, but compressed to meet the then limited demands of the formats available on home video. But the basic work has already been done. If they ever come around to 4K releases, I would collect virtually all of them, with a preference paid to the classic Connery and Moore releases, plus Lazenby's one outing as Bond - still, in my opinion, one of the greatest Bond flicks of all time. The rest I still want, but could afford to wait for, completely satisfied with my standard Blu's. But Connery and Moore. The world was not enough for these guys, and nobody did it better!

Here is the link about the Craig 007 films in a UHd set coming in September.

Hopefully the other films are in the way too!

Someone on a certain large other forum even posted a cover image, not sure where he got it. Usually these leaks are spot on, though there have been some that never came out like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Got it.
Hopefully some confirmed news is on the way about the release.
More importantly hopefully news on the other films is also on the way too.

I looked a couple of months ago actually and I seem to remember only Goldfinger and Thunderball being listed. I'm not sure if they were accessible though.

I don't know why but I was expecting a full UHD set perhaps because they are all available on iTunes. I guess actor box sets or waves are the better way to go especially due to the ridiculous markup cost of UHD. I guess it also bodes well for a better release, they take their time and release in phases assuming there is actually some value added content this time and not just a resolution difference.

It makes sense the Craigs are done first I suppose, there'll be far more ready to go than anything made before them and will act as a prelude to his last film. Either way i'm not to fussed about catching them on Day 1. I'm seeing Secret Cinema's Casino Royale in July so that will do for now.

I happened to be watching the 2004 “Licence to restore” feature last night. You’ll find most of the answers in there but your fairly spot on.
The full res versions have been around from that start though. Over the years I’ve been to screenings where they’ve used the 4K DCP’s, including a showing of OHMSS on the UK’s largest screen- the BFI IMAX.

hd-report.com was also speculating on HDR. I guess if these discs do have it they will be HDR10+ instead of Dolby Vision as Fox is handling it.
I found a while ago an old article that mentioned the Bond negs selected for 4K were scanned in by the Imager XE-Advanced which takes 4 seconds a frame. I tried to find a spec but only found one for what seems to be a newer model, the Imager XE-Advanced Plus which takes 1.9 seconds per frame. The spec also says it can do 16-bit image processing.
Maybe others know more about scanners but I guess if they are including HDR they wouldn't necessarily need to rescan if the machine was capable enough.

As for whether HDR will be beneficial on the classic films? that could open up some interesting possibilities or most likely - more controversy!

Superman 1978 UHd Blu Ray has HDR and received great reviews?

Here’s a pic from amazon for Goldfinger digital only. It shows as not available.

They must be using the same 4K version as iTunes then. Think someone said the camera shake was also put back as well as the cropping sorted. These latest versions (although not all new) also seem to open with the "eye" MGM logo.

All of them on Netflix? I don’t think octopussy does. I may have missed it though.

Confirmed on a view to a kill. It has the new mgm logo at the beginning.

Camera shake is back in a view to a kill version on Netflix too.

Color looks a bit more muted but more natural from the Blu Ray release?
