I was watching this disc this past weekend and out of curiousity I flipped on the bitrate display to find that the audio was 758kbs. I thought SPR was supposed to be full bitrate, what gives?

Wow, I didn't know that! Peculiar that they would put a half bitrate disc out by itself.

I believe it was one of the first Half Bit's to actually to get released if I'm not mistaken.

That practice didn't last too long. I can think of a few others off hand though, such as Jaws, Jurassic Park I and II, and the Haunting are all DTS/dolby 2.0 releases that are half bitrate.

Wow, Jurassic Park DTS is half bit-rate? I would've never thought! That beast of a disc was shaking my place a few weekends ago. [IMG]

I wonder if the May 25th release of SPR: D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition will be better of the same as the current release, since it is suppose to include DTS and DD 5.1, as well as a Dolby Surround track. Granted it is a 2 disc release with teh extras being o nteh 2nd disc, but who knows. The cover art and supplements for this set do look impressive though and I may upgrade from my current DTS set if this one turns out to be better.

Yah, but most current DTS releases also have DD5.1 tracks on them. I think Greg was referring to half-bit DTS-only releases.

There is no correlation between low bass levels and bit rate.

Well how many full bit DTS DVD's have been released? Not many (if any) I'm sure.

I think the reasoning behind it was that for such a long film, with such dynamic visuals, a full bit-rate DVD would have either severely compromised the video or caused the movie to be split over two discs.

Hmm, more than I thought, but still comparatively rare as I suspected. Ryan will probably be half BR as before.
