Tragic. And now just a statistic...no seat belt, using a cell phone. A prime candidate for those horrid traffic safety movies. "Highway to Hell"

It would be really weird to be talking on the phone with someone when they get into a car accident, especially if that person died.

You'd think that by now some people would learn their lesson and not talk on their cell phones and drive in traffic at the same time. Apparently not. If you're going to be in a car and talk on the cell phone, pull off to the side of the road or to a parking lot somewhere, then make your call. Simple as that.

Here in San Francisco, some woman was talking on her cell phone while driving....and crashed into a parked police car with 2 officers in it.

    Not kidding.

It's illegal to talk on a cell phone without a 'hands-free set up' and drive here in N.Y. I swear that more people are talking on their cell phones while driving since the law went into effect.

I don't think it's ironic. Irony is "incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs." It is not ironic that an inattentive driver talking on a cell phone had an accident.

It's ironic that she wanted to be an EMT -- you expect them to avoid the obviously dangerous behaviors.

I'm not sure what the right word is to describe cruel coincidence; a morbidly poetic coincidence expected by those that believe such behavior is dangerous. (A trenchant example of the dangers of distracted driving...)

    (Sorry if I seem pedantic.)

It is unfortunate for the woman and her loved ones.

Dave F is right. Just because something is a coincidence, doesn't mean it's ironic. They give a little better discussion on the "ironic" page at dictionary.com: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=ironic

It's like in the song "Isn't it Ironic," just because it rains on your wedding day, it's not necessarily ironic. What is ironic is that the song about irony conatins things that aren't ironic.

Yes, I don't think anything mentioned in the song is ironic.

I know it's not ironic, but using this thread's diffenition of ironic, I heard on the radio today that a man took his son out to watch him handglide. The father didn't want to, but his son forced him to. What ended up happenning was the father crashed and the pointed part of the handglider hit his son in the head, killing him. The father walked away and said "I told you I didn't want to go!"

Isn't rain on a wedding day supposed to mean good luck? If so, wouldn't it be ironic that your wedding day appears to be ruined, but in fact it is actually a good thing?

Nope, but believe it or not, I am asked this question rather often. I've even had people call me in Florida looking for this guy.

He's either greatly loved, or greatly hated, I'm not sure which.
