Recently my DVD player (a Pioneer 525 I think) started

to pixellate the picture and then stopped completely

whilst playing the widescreen version of Jeepers Creepers

that I had rented. I played the other fullscreen side no

problem. Cleaning the disk did not help.

This also happens now on a number of my DVD collection

disks. Notably, Phantom Menace will always stop shortly

into the movie. The disk is spotted and I cannot wash

the spots off with warm soapy water. I've tried a couple

of others and they failed too. What is up ?

I thought I may have a screwed DVS player because I had

pressed stop whilst watching a movie a couple of weeks

ago and left it at the 'resume' prompt for a week or more.

Would this screw my player up ?

    Are my disks wrecked?

It sounds like a problem with the player, not the discs (although it's not uncommon for rented discs to be scratched). I suggest you try some of the discs you own in another player, perhaps in a store.
