I can get this with free shipping and a free printer through my company. Is it a good deal, or will it be in May when I am ready to buy?

I was debating wether or not to build my own machine, but if that is gonna save me only $100, then I would rather go with this. It will be used for surfing (broadband), video editing, and occasional gaming. Whaddayathink? :)

Having checked the Dell deals through my company (who buys Dell PCs for work), I've found that our "special deals for employees" is not that big a deal. Dell runs better deals through it's normal advertising channels and since the employee discounts cannot be combined with any deal outside their normal channels, it's not that much a deal. If your plan is like ours, I think you can find a deal just by checking the website or subscribing to their flyer distribution. Every now and then I get a little flyer in the mail announcing all the Dell promotions and some of them are decent for already-made computers.

Check out dells site and see what their specials are for this week. They change what free stuff they are handing out everyweek. If you don't need the machine right away just wait until you do need it and then start checking their web site for the deals. That same system you listed spec'd out on dells site now would be 1428 (1678-250 mail in rebate), then add shipping. So the price you were quoted is better.

I was tossing around the idea of building another machine and here's my hardware list. (I always struggle between buying pre-built w/support/warranties and DIY. I always end up the DIY route since it's so much fun. :) ) You can add some round cables (3x=$42), a mouse ($10), keyboard ($15), 3 piece multimedia speakers ($30). I didn't list them since I already have them. I'd use ME but XP is available for $97 with hardware purchase, which I really should take advantage of:
