I've heard talk about this anyone anything?
Hi Jim, I had seen/heard about a Frighteners SE on the "Bits" awhile back. I performed a search in the Software forum and found this: The following quote courtesy of Jeff Kleist... "The Frighteners (was rumored for 2003/2004 to capitalize on Peter Jackson's LOTR success, so what happened?)- Universal is about to be sold, they have cut their SE output down to virtually nothing, and released the bare minimum number of titles to increase their sale value. Pretty much goes for every single title they have." So unfortunately looks like it will be a long while before it surfaces. Regards.
I don't know anything for sure...but I did notice that Universal repackaged the movie in 2002. Seems like that was the extent of their investment in the movie. IMHO, the original packaging was way better. On the upside, the A/V quality of the current release is adequate and the movie can be had for about $10.
I am anxiously awaiting the SE version. I hear the director has done some other fairly well known films. Gregory
The Frighteners Signature Collection LD is one of the few lasers that I'm still hunting. Of course, it would be nicer to only have to pay ~20 for the DVD rather than ~250 for the laser
God i hope a special edition is in the works. While the theaterical cut is a fun ride, the directors cut found on the laserdisc adds helpful exposition and character development. A special editon would most certainly contain this cut of the film.
Any NEW news on this title? With Peter Jackson hopefully winning the Oscar this year, wouldn't it be nice to use "From Academy Award Winning Diretor Peter Jackson Comes THE FRIGHTENERS: Extended Edition"!
