    Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom

I am searching for anything that would disuade me from just
buying this camera. I have researched and compared it to the
competition in it's price range from Canon, Nikon and Sony.

The key features that makes this camera stand out to me are:

    • Extended Definition Aspherical Ground Glass Optics, Anti
      Glare Coated
    • Metal Body
    • Raw Uncompressed Storage Format (Tiff)
    • 4.0 Effective Megapixel CCD
    • EXif 2.2 Compatibility
    • Rechargeable NiMh Batteries
    • HotShoe Docking for Pro Flash Synched with Camera Shutter
    • Optional Lenses easily screwed on (Fisheye, Tele, Wide)
    • HD Flash Card
    • Movie Mode With Sound, no time limits (will fill entire
      HD Card with Movie)
    • 10X Optical Zoom 30X Digital Smooth Zoom 40X Total Zoom
    • User Adjustable ISO
    • User Calibrate White Ballance
    • User Adjustable Metering
      [/list=a]

That is the short list of all the features it has, that I
want... Some of the other cameras offer some of these
features but not all. And from past experiance with friends
who have Olympus cameras I find the Color to be very vivid
moreso than the Sony's and Nikon's I have used.

So anyone here have this camera or it's siblings and wish
they had bought something else? Any known issues?

      Thanks in advance.

The only thing I can think of is that theres few readers for the xD picture card yet. If you want an all in one, theres only one option, by Atech Flash for around 50 dollars. I believe that someone does make a reader that is for SmartMedia and xD that is cheaper though. Also I think that Olympus might sell an adaptor to use an xD card in a smartmedia slot. Just one small thing to consider.

Olympus and a couple other companies make XD to normal Smart
card adaptors, Olympus makes a Flash Card drive that reads
all of the various types of cards (XD, Smart, Sony etc)

I think you can use non HD cards in the camera "but" you
can not do video without the HD card, you can do images
    only from what I read.

    Thanks for the info!

couldn't find a better deal than $509.00 and free shipping.

I did find one place online (butterfly photo) that had it
for $496.00 but they wanted $25.00 shipping so screw that
    I said!

whoops too late! I was just going to recommend you check out www.dpreview.com to see if they have an official review (I think it's called a "full review" not just one of their reader reviews) of that cam before buying. I think it's an invaluable site as far as digicam resources are concerned.

    Carl,

I read a 12 or so page long review on Imaging-Resource.com
on the 750 plus read all the reader reviews.. Very positive
stuff the gripes they had were things that will not effect
a casual photographer most of them are pretty seasoned die
hards and thier gripes were on the level of semi pro gear.

Between Nikon, Sony, Olympus and Canon I think I made the
    right choice for me [IMG]

Cool, enjoy your purchase! I was just worried that perhaps you were having trouble finding a good resource on the net for reviews and feedback, but clearly you've done your homework.

I take more pics now with my digicam than I ever did w/ a point & shoot. But I'm still thinking of getting an SLR for that "I'm a pseudo-professional-photographer" feel. [IMG]

Your really going to enjoy this camera. I have the C-700 model which is the exact same, except it uses smart media and is the older 2.1 megapixel version. Sure, it doesn't have the greatest resolution, but the zoom ROCKS.

In my opinion, this is one of the best cameras out there if you want something that anyone can use, yet it can still do plenty more with the manual options. I really like the threads that allow you to attach an adapter so you can put different filters and such on it. I even have a 1.9x zoom lens that I can screw onto mine that gives me 19x optical zoom (the only problem is you need a tripod to get a good shot, or else a lot of light).

Hope you enjoy your new toy!

    Carlo,

Thanks! I am sure I will enjoy it.. As soon as it gets here!
I hate the dreaded wait... Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie! [IMG] Thanks
for the links I did read through that website, very good
    info over there!

    Johnathan,

It's good to hear someone else who has the same camera
essentialy and enjoys it! The manual options are a big
factor in my purchase. Lots of other cameras offer some
of the features but not everything I was looking for.

I will post some pictures here taken with the camera when
    I get it [IMG]

    Woo Hoo!

My 750 came this past weekend and I have been experimenting
and learning how to use it.

Initial impressions were that it's a solidly built unit that
feels great in the hands. A bit smaller than I had expected
but not "too small". The EVF Is bright even in dim or night
shots and has great color and resolution. The lens captures
everything and the zoom works fantastic.

I ordered an aluminum barrel that threads onto the body and
allows use of 52mm add on lenses and filters I also ordered
the UV, Polarized and Florescent Filters. Mainly I ordered
these to protect the Oly's ED Glass Lens from dust or scrathes.

Next I want to get the Oly External Flash (FL40) And Flash
Bracket plus I need some more memory. This camera is a keeper!

Here are some photos all taken on "Auto" and this is the
next to the highest JPEG resolution. I can also take these
in raw TIFF Format and Interpolate up to a higher resolution.

These photos were not edited in any way other than resized
and saved in medium compression in Adobe Photoshop. The
originals are much larger and much more clear.

Brett, what does the "4.0 Effective Megapixel CCD" mean? Is it truly a 4MP camera, or is it less with interpolation make it "effectively" 4MP? Or perhaps it's a 12MP detector, counting the RGB triplets, and it's 4MP for effective use. Just curious, as I may buy a digital camera later this year.

    Dave,

I am not quite sure how they define the CCD since there
are varying CCD Technologies.. But when they say 4.0
Effective it displays 4 million pixels directly in it's
native resolution. Oly has a feature though that will
interpolate UP from the max CCD Res to a higher resolution
and still have very decent quality..

These are all the resolutions the camera will take pictures
    in.

    3200 x 2400 pixels (Enlarge Size--interpolated from 2288 x 1712; SHQ, HQ)
    2288 x 1712 pixels (TIFF, SHQ, HQ)
    2288 x 1520 pixels (3:2 mode; TIFF, SHQ, HQ)
    2048 x 1536 pixels (TIFF, SQ1 High/Normal)
    1600 x 1200 pixels (TIFF, SQ1 High/Normal)
    1280 x 960 pixels (TIFF, SQ1 High/Normal)
    1024 x 768 pixels (TIFF, SQ2 High/Normal)
    640 x 480 pixels (TIFF, SQ2 High/Normal)

Okay my 3 piece Crystal Optics Filter Set and my Kencor
47.5mm to 53mm Adaptor came so I might as well do a mini
    review.

I paid $36.00 for the three piece Filter Kit and the Step
Up Adaptor. All parts are machined beautifuly out of solid
aluminum and then clear anodized. The 47.5mm to 53mm step
up adaptor threads onto the camera body perfectly and looks
absolutely beefy on the camera. My main reason for buying
the filter kit was moreso to protect the Oly's ED Aspherical
Glass Lens more than anything. This camera's features are
so advanced that you really have no need for the UV Fiter
(adds sharpness) or the Florescent Filter (Corrects white
balance) as the camera can do these functions before the
images are written from the CCD to the Media. But none the
less you can use the filters and not use the camera correction.

The filters look to be well constructed and they say they
are made of optical glass and multi coated. There is no way
for me to verify this but they don't seem to add any ill
distorsion to the images. So for my intended purpose they
are perfect. Now with that said, if I had a 2K Canon EOS
10D I would opt for Canon, Tiffen, Hoya, Nikkor optics and
    would spend more money.

Here's some pictures of the lenses, adaptor and also my
Solidex Tripod that I got for FREE!

This Tripod is the cats azz! Fluid Head control over Pan
and Tilt, quick camera release, 3 stage extendable legs,
rack and pinion center column that is extendable, retractable
rubber feet to expose spikes all in all it's a super nice
Tripod that I would have paid a fair penney for.. But free
is the best price of all! (my EX boss hooked me up! His
wife bought it for thier video cam and never used either..
They sold the cam and forgot they had the Tripod.. I always
wanted the Tripod when I worked there... So I called him up
and asked if he still had it, they had forgotten about it..
They said if I could find it I could have it! [IMG]

Next stop? Oly Fl40 Pro Flash and a 512MB XD Card!
