I don't have an amp... not even sure what I would use it for... I'm an HT newbie but learning fast thanks to this board!

Is there a need for an AMP in a strictly HT set up?

    thanks, as always,

    Jim

    you already have an amp.

a receiver is composed of a preamp, processor, amplifier and tuner.

without an amp, you cannot send the power to drive your speakers.

the question of whether you need a SEPARATE amp for home theater is a tougher one, as I can't even answer it in my case...

    hope it helps,

    Seb
