Frontier just didn't do it for me and Elite Plus is just unplayable on a PIII. ;)
I would really be interested in knowing what games there out there of this type, preferably with interenet play options.
Shareware or standard I'm up for something like this.
Any suggestions are very welcome.
Cheers.

Origin's "Wing Commander Privateer" series is a direct clone/update of Elite for the most part.

Yup, Privateer.

Privateer will run perfectly well on modern hardware, providing your sound card can emulate some version of a soundblaster properly. I keep it on my laptop, which is a P2-500. Looks it's age, but still plays great.

Cheers but I am really looking for modern stuff. Privateer must be about 8 years old now!!
I know there are some projects in place but they're far from finished.
It would be cool to play a nice space exploration game again...:frowning:

X:Beyond the Frontier tried to be a next-gen Elite, and succeed in some places, but the 'early game' is incredibly bland as you're far far too weak. If you can get it & its add-on pack, it's worth getting - the add-on, "Xtension" adds a lot to it apparently.
