I was wondering if anyone knows if there was ever a box set of Frank Capra's best movies - Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, etc.
I, of course, have It's A Wonderful Life to watch this Christmas, but would love to pick up some of his greatest hits.
    Cheers,
    Grant

No Boxset that I've ever heard of, but most of his mandatory titles are available in varying quality.

    Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
    It Happened One Night
    It's a Wonderful Life
You Can't Take It With You
    Meet John Doe

Columbia has enough titles to make a nice box. I haven't seen all of them, but It Happened One Night and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington are fantastic.

Here's the titles that are already on DVD...

    Columbia:

    The Matinee Idol
    Platinum Blonde
    It Happened One Night
    Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
    Lost Horizon
You Can't Take It With You
    Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

    Warner:

    Arsenic and Old Lace

    Image:

    Lady for a Day

    Kino:

The Strong Man/Long Pants/Tramp Tramp Tramp

    MGM:

    A Hole in the Head
    A Pocketful of Miracles

    Artisan/Republic:

    It's a Wonderful Life

And the "Why We Fight" series is on DVD from a lot of companies.

    NOT ON DVD:

    Paramount:

    Broadway Bill
    Riding High
    Here Comes the Bride
It's A Wonderful Life (new version)

    Universal:

    State of the Union

    Warner:

    Meet John Doe (public domain)

    Columbia:

The Bitter Tea of General Yen
    The Miracle Woman

Don't forget Frank Capra's Wonders Of Life series. 2 DVD's, one with HEMO THE MAGNIFICENT and THE UNCHAINED GODDESS, the other with OUR MR. SUN. and STRANGE CASE OF THE COSMIC RAYS. Not sure which studio released it, and I'm not at home to look at my copy, but I think it was IMAGE.

And if you get the "Why We Fight" series, get the Goodtimes version, not the abomination on Madacy.

Wow, I didn't realize all those titles were available.
Columbia could definitely make a wonderful box set for Xmas from those.
    Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Grant

    Patrick:

Meet John Doe is available, in two versions. One from Image, but a better version is available from England from Sanctuary Entertainment, and it is NTSC, not PAL.

I haven't seen any mention of this on the boards, but Universal is releasing "State Of The Union" on August 22. Great news! What about that box set that was rumored to be coming out?

On the Cary Grant set from Columbia there was a trailer for a Frank Capra set coming soon with many of his most famous movies including It Happened One Night, Mr Smith , Mr Deeds, and You Can't take It With You, and one new to DVD release . Since then nothing has been announced . Hopefully it will be released in the forth quarter.
