Is there a dual-benchmark disc that can be used for both the DVD-A and SACD formats?

I'm new to the DVD-A/SACD formats. I have an AVIA disc that I've used with my trusty RS meter in the past. In a few weeks, I hopefully will be buying a Denon 2900 that it will be used for.

Chesky has his Ultimate 5.1 Setup Disc (I think that's the title).

AIX has setup material on their latest 5.1 sampler as well.

I'm not sure what's out there for SA-CD.

    Cheers,

John, those are for DVD-A only? Will I have to buy one for each format?

Of course, if you have both formats, which do you use to calibrate the system?

I use the Chesky disc DVD-A tracks for my Pio 45a, and find that both SACD and DVD-A stuff played through the player sound fine.

Of course, when I do get a SACD test disc, I will probably find that my SACD channel balance has been all wrong!

I found that DD through the analog outputs is *close* to the Chesky DVD-A disc.

I even have that DMP SACD disc, but haven't gotten to it yet! [IMG]

I think that I have become more of a believer in tweaking the sub by ear. I did it for years with Avia, and ran it 2-3 dB "hot", but I always felt it was too loud for movies. Now I have it down by about 5 dB, and much prefer it. I think most people miss that because the Radio Shack meter is less sensitive to lower freqs, that means you should lower the sub's level, and not increase it. But you have to think about that for a few seconds before it makes sense. [IMG]

    Kevin,

Very true. For subwoofer calibrations with my RS meter, I read between 72-73dBs. This ties into something I've been saying for a while.

In normal operation if you notice the subwoofers presence, it's too loud [IMG] The only time you should be aware of its presence is if there's content that you know your main speakers cannot handle.

While I understand the adrenaline rush from exaggerated LF response, I find that it seriously detracts from the overall experience.

    Cheers,

I been looking around for a retailer for this disc. But, the Chesky Setup Disc can only be ordered directly from Chesky Records, right?
