Hi, I am setting up a home theater system. I purchased a BenQ TH700 and was expecting a better picture quality. IE like my Sony HD 4K TV. Maybe my expectations were too high? I saw a review of the BenQ HT4550i that looked good, but will it really have a better picture than theTH700 or will it also look similar to the TH700 to what I call soap opera tv shows? No I am not going to spend thousands but the HT4550i is within reach. I have about 2 weeks to return the TH700 for a full refund but need to know if there is better out there. I mainly will use this for Movies and streaming. Gaming is not a priority at all. Also, my home theater in the basement with no outside light. My screen size is 135 inch. It is a silver ticket screen.

Thank you,
Joe

You may want to add BenQ projector to the title?

As a rule of thumb, you’re trading screen size for contrast and HDR choosing a projector over a TV. So that’s the trade.

I can’t find any info on a Benq TH700. I did find a review of a Benq TK700. If this is your projector and you don’t care about videogames, this is not the right projector for you. It’s trading absolute picture quality for low input lag for gamers. It’s also a low-end projector, and as a rule, those will compare even less favorably to a good direct-view TV.

Of course, there are always tweaks and calibrations to be done to make a projector look better. It might be you need to look into enthusiast forums and check that you’ve got your projector setup to your taste.

The Benq HT4550i looks like it’s very much more a “home theater” projector than a “budget gamer” projector. If you’re a Benq buyer, this definitely seems like the choice over the TK700.

But it still may well look inferior to your Sony. Depending on what you prioritize can help you decide if you really want a projector or actually an 80” to 100” TV.

Thanks for the input. I did put the model number in wrong. Should be TK700. I did more checking on the HT4550i and it appears there was/is a problem with the screen going blank and having to send back to BenQ for a repair. They do some firmware updates.
