I've been looking for this DVD everywhere and I can't find it. I saw it a few months back at Best Buy for $9.99, but like an idiot I didn't pick it up at the time. Now, it's no longer there or at Wal Mart, Target, etc. Does anyone know where I can find it(other than eBay) or am I just screwed? Thanks.

I saw a two pack of it and the new Animal House at Circuit City for $19.99.

Chad,

You wouldn't be interested in picking that 2-pack up for me by chance, would you? I'd be willing to pay you for your time and effort if you could. :)

I might not get back down that way until Saturday. If it's there, I'll grab one for you and we can settle up after that. (I can always return it if you don't want it).

Chad,

Sounds good. I don't want you to go out of your way, but if you do happen to go there and pick it up, I'll definitely buy it from you. Thanks.

If it has indeed gone OOP you better hurry and pick up the current DVD ASAP!

One buck Universal will screw up the re -release.

I am sure they will re-release it as the "Mission from God" edition and that they just happen to find the missing "Sink the Bismark" song from Bob's Country Bunker.

In a bare-bones case with no insert....

I was fortunate enough to locate the cool insert from the original Animal House DVD for my painfully empty Secret Probation edition release.

Love the cool Mad magazine artwork, photos, and signatures of the original insert.

The current BB insert is very cool as well.

My holy grail DVD is an (even more) extended cut of The Blues Brothers but I doubt it will happen. According to the booklet and other sources, Universal threw away a lot of their old trims and outtakes sometime in 1985 so it's highly unlikely that we'll ever see that footage. Then again, when Spike TV (or whatever it's called) aired a special on The Making of Animal House, they included some outtake footage of a cafeteria scene in which John Landis played a cameo role. I don't know where they got that footage from so who knows?

...and featuring a brand-new 5.1 remix that omits some of the dialogue. :D

I still see this around in stores. I would prefer it have both the extended version and the original released cut via seamless branching, but I actually like most of the extra scenes, so it's not as big a deal to me, I guess.

It's certainly worth $10, at any rate.

I sill have my Signature Collection Blues Brothers LD. The transfer and sound is so good that I didn't feel the need to go to DVD. This edition contains the extended edition. It's a nice LD with a nice gatefold.

I watched it recently, a movie I must have seen close to 100 times and just noticed Steven Spielberg at the end of the movie in the clerk's office.

Well, next year is the 25th anniversary, so I wouldn't put it past Universal to reissue it. But, like Scott (and everyone else) says, the footage for a director's cut is probably long gone. And personally, I probably would stick with the old copy, even if Landis threw on a commentary (well, maybe...).

Brent,

I'm sorry, I didn't make it down that way this weekend, life just got in the way.

I would guess Universal would release this again as part of their "Franchise Collection" with BB2000 included as well, sans extra features.

Of course I remember buying the Blues Brothers DVD for the low price of $34.99...

In R2 land (England at least) Blues Brothers is only sold as a 2 pack with Blues Brothers 2000 for 20 bucks. I wouldn't be surprised if they started selling them together. I would've bought the 2 pack myself, but since this is a musical (more or less) I went with the R1 version to avoid PAL speed up.
