I'm looking for a DVD player solely for VCD's and SVCD's. My Panasonic RV80 plays VCD via CDRW only. I'll be keeping the Panasonic so DVD playback doesn't matter with the new player.
Is the Apex good for this or should I get a Pioneer?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

The SAMPO 611 - plays pretty much anything flawlessly and can easily be modified for all region play. SHould be around $200 or under.

Go to www.vcdhelp.com for a very good listing of DVD players, their abilities and rankings. The site is having hosting issues, but the list is still up. You just can't add to it. The player reviews are mostly geared toward VCD and SVCD abilities.
I picked up the Pioneer 343 for $150 at CC just to play SVCD's based on their report. It's not the greatest player, but it's cheap and plays what I want it to. I am very happy with it.

I think I'll get the Pioneer DV-343. Based on vcdhelp, it's the best one for CDR/CDRW/VCD/SVCD/XVCD/XSVCD.
    Thanks,
    Jeff
