Is Sony STR-DA5ES a new 2002 model? (1 Viewer)

I have heard conflicting reports that it is being phased out. Can anyone verify this? Thanks!

Tom, welcome to the Forum! The 'DA5ES was released around October 2001, so it "old" in the market lifetime of a receiver. Thus far, Sony has not announced a direct replacement for the 'DA3ES or 'DA5ES, but I would expect replacements to come later this year. For one thing, Sony, like most companies, releases new receivers every year. Secondly, the retail prices of the 'DA3ES and 'DA5ES were dropped a few months ago. Price drops are usually a good indicator that a replacement is coming.

Sony did recently announce its intention to release two integrated DVD/SACD player-A/V receivers later this year. They will be part of the ES line. One will sport a single-disc player, while the other will offer a carousel changer.
