There are some conflicting information in regards to SFU specs. On Amazon and other they spec it as 16x9 widescreen on the box itself it is 4:3 - is the box correct or is Amazon wrong.

No, it is not widescreen. Read Gord's review for details (click the "in depth reviews" icon, which is the next-to-last item in the menu below the box art).

I'm glad that it's 4x3 because it's very apparant that the show was composed for that ratio. Much like "The X-Files" and "Buffy" I imagine that if it were opened up to 16x9 there would probably be a lot of stuff on the sides that you aren't supposed to see and no actual improvement in terms of composition.

There are numerous threads in the TV forum discussing Six Feet Under. You might want to start with this one:

Why do you like 'Six Feet Under'?

After each of the 26 episodes broadcast to date, there was a separate discussion thread. Most of them are still there, but watch out for spoilers.

The show is not for everyone -- in fact, no show is. Right now, there's also a thread in the TV forum in which people are venting about how HBO's various series (including SFU) are "overrated":

It was broadcast 4:3, even on HBO-HD.
