Even if it was allowed at the time, you have to use common sense...

If they told me "You can't physicaly hurt the animals but it's OK to scare them"...

I would still know it's wrong!

I've actually seen certain animals die from being "scared to death".

For what its worth, I picked this up today at Best Buy for $9.99. The Weekly Roundup thread in the Deals section lists this title for $12.99 at Best Buy, but thats apparently wrong.

Actually, Best Buy's website mentioned the $12.99 price point all the way up to and including the release date; I was going to use their store pickup feature (which requires advance payment via credit card) to ensure I got a copy since I wasn't going to be able to get to the store until 2 hours after they opened and I knew they'd have a very limited amount of PROJECT X DVDs in stock, but something in the back of my mind told me that price seemed too steep (perhaps the fact that DeepDiscountDVD was offering the title for $8.99), so I just decided to chance it and, sure enough, they had four copies still in stock and were selling them for $9.99. Go figure. Glad I rolled the dice...

EDIT: Previously, I accidentaly left out the "Government investigators found..." sentence in the first quote.

I flat out cannot conceive the logic of a pro-animal rights movie abusing animals during its filming, but the evidence is becoming more damning. I hope it won't harm my enjoyment of the film--perhaps the message will still outweight the means...

Jeff,
the article quoted in your post made me almost cry. I can't believe they did that shit!
Travis,
not to jinx your chances of enjoying the film, but during the scene when they're trying to lead Virgil to the chamber, just try and keep the idea that his whimpers and cries might be real out of your head, I couldn't do it.
Which is why i'm not touching this ever again. That scene tore me up when I thought it was only very good chimp acting!
