I have a Panasonic TX-36PB50D 16:9 television and when I turn it on it, with no better way to say it, farts. It makes a loud, sudden "brrrppp" sound. I figured this might just be the tube warming up or degaussing, but wanted to see if this was normal and if anyone else had experienced it.

Thanks in advance.

Stop feeding it chili burritos, and it should stop farting!
Seriously though, it's just the degausser. It makes a loud buzz for a split second while it demagnetizes the shadow mask in the picture tube.

 Well, I didn't think one burrito would hurt, but that just shows what I know.
Thanks for the info. My wife jumps everytime I turn it on.

Lots of tvs do this. One of the worst is my old 1986 model Sony KV25XBR in the bedroom--very loud farty noise everytime it's turned on. I think the pressure releif is why this thing's still got a gorgeous picture after 17 years of heavy use.

Just you wait, after about 200 hours of use, these models start crapping...
you don't want that... :)
just the degausser.
