Is my RT2600 a/v receiver broken? Or is it me? (1 Viewer)

Hello and thanks for the help, I bought my first Home Theater A/V 5.1 receiver, a used JVC RT2600. My main goal is to display my different systems (TV, DVD, VCR, Wii) thru the unit to my Projector. Each system is hooked to the unit by Composite a/v cables (Ylw, Rd, Wht) except the DVD, which uses S-video. The Projector is connected to the RT2600 S-Video out Port.

The Audio works for each connected system, but only the DVD player will play thru the Projector. I just kinda assumed that each unit should be able to video output to the projector as selected. Isn’t that the purpose of a Home Theater A/V Receiver?

I am either doing something wrong, or my receiver is not functioning. It is suspect that none of the things connected by yellow composite Video cables work, only the DVD connected by the S-Video is working. I have tested that the items (Wii) have a video signal by hooking it straight to the TV; it just won’t pass thru the receiver to display on the Projector.

Am I misunderstanding what a Home Theater A/V Receiver is used for? Is my system dead? Or am I doing something wrong? Please help…I wanna play my Wii thru my A/V Receiver to my Projector…

It seems as if the AVR will not convert the signal from S-Video to composite. You will need to have a separate composite cable to your projector.

I'm assuming this is the best connections you can make to your projector? Composite is the second worst connection you can make (S-Video is 3rd). If you have an option for component (red, green, and blue wire) or HDMI (single cable), you should use that instead.

Everything I find online about an RT2600, says it's an RCA system, not a JVC.

I agree with David. You also need to run a yellow video cable from the receiver, to the projector, because the receiver does not upconvert the composite signal to an s-video signal. You can get receivers that will do this, but they're probably going to cost a little more, than what you paid for the RT2600.

David thanks,
My projector is a Epson Powerlite S5 (I have a small budget). I am very happy with the DVD movie playing thru it via the S-Video cable.
Its Input options are:
-S-Video
-RCA (Composite)
-VGA
-Component (thru the VGA with and adapter)

RT2600 Output Options are:
-S-Video (now hooked to projector
-RCA (Composite)
(manual: RCA RT2600 Home Theater System (310-5016))

I understand that S-Video is better then RCA Composite?

I will try your suggestion to run both the S-Video and RCA Composite to the projector. I was hoping that I would only have to run one cable, with the best of my options being the S-Video cable. But is adding the RCA fixes this, I will be very happy...

David, I do not have a long enough RCA composite cable, so I am off to find one and will report on this fix in a bit...

My problem has been resolved,
As suggested, I needed to run both an S-Video and a Video Composite cable to the Projector.

It seems so simple now, but thats what being a Newbie is all about. I have seen the term "upconvert" before, now I better understand it.
