I already have the R1 DTS version of this movie on DVD. But I want to own and watch the theatrical version as well.

Considering that my options are limited since I don't want to go the VHS route, Does anyone have this movie on VCD or have heard anything about it on VCD? For example is it in widescreen, how's the video and audio quality, are there any extras, etc..? Please help. Thx in advance.

There is a good chance that it is not widescreen, but I'm not sure.

The VideoCD available in Hong Kong is presented in pan & scan NTSC.

VideoCDs generally do not have any supplementary materials. A few might have a music video or featurette. Some VideoCDs do have menus but if they do not have any menus...accessing these features is similar to VHS tape.

VideoCDs are usually presented in stereo and some are presented in surround sound. VideoCDs also can have two seperate audio channels but each channel is mono.

I would really like to have the theatrical cut as well, i like it better!!! There is a widescreen VHS (shudder!!!). I think my parents still have that somewhere.

If you must have the theatrical version, I would go with the widescreen VHS before any VCD. For a film like LOTM with alot of green backgrounds and movement the MPEG-1 encoding is going to be a real mess. Not to mention many VCD ar P&S only, and have improperly mastered audio, VHS is the far superior choice.

If you have an LD player, I would recommend the THX AC-3 remastered edition. Great pic/sound for the theatrical version.
