Well, I've had my Yamaha 992 receiver for a quite a few years now and I was wondering if technology had stepped it up far enough to warrant an upgrade. I haven't had the chance to really take note of what has come out in the industry but here is my current setup:

    Toshiba TN55X81 55" projection TV

Toshiba SD5109 progressive scan DVD player

    Yamaha RXV-992 receiver

    Paradigm Reference Studio 40s v2

    Paradigm Reference Studio CC

    Paradigm Titan (for rears)

    Paradigm PW2200 subwoofer

Would a different receiver help with my Paradigm setup?

    Thanks for the suggestions,

    Patrick

If the 992 doesn't have DTS capabilities, that is probably one good reason to upgrade. I have Paradigm Monitor series with the Yamaha 795 and really like the combination, but that is only my personal taste.

    Hi Pat,

I had my Yamaha 992 for 4 years and just upgraded it 2 weeks ago with an Onkyo 898. The biggest reason I upgraded was to get DTS, Dolby PLII and component video switching. While the new features are nice there is not a night and day difference between the 2 receivers. The Yamaha 992 is a pretty darn good receiver. If it had 5.1 inputs, I probably would have waited a little longer to upgrade.
