I've always been fascinated with octopuses. Their intelligence is on par with a dog, from what I've read.

Are they something that's available to the general aquarium owner?

    Anyone have one?

I'd like a few jellyfish [IMG]

I don't know about an octopus, though. . sounds interesting! You could, like, teach it to do tricks and impress all your friends when they come over LOL

Dave, your post is about the funniest I've seen...partly due to the fact that you're probably sincere in your interest. [IMG]

I can only imagine...Roll over, Seven!

Yep. I've seen them several times at marine aquarium shops. Sold small though, somewhere between the size of your palm and the size of your outstretched hand. You'll need a tank with a VERY well sealing top.

I think Dave is on to something there. Remember that add where the guy has a falcon that will go fetch a Bud Light on command? Imagine having an octopus that was trained to open beer bottles ...

This is so cool. I have a 60 gallon hex tank with only three fish in it. Maybe I'll move them to another tank and get an octopus. I didn't know they were small enough to keep as pets.

Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't know they were so short lived.

I am really only half-serious about getting one. I doubt my wife would allow it. It would be fun to watch him explore the tank and wonder whats going through that mushy-bulbous head of his. [IMG]

Now jellyfish on the other hand... I am always mezmerized by their ghostly glow at the zoo. They have a huge cylindrical tank that is completely dark on one side and a light shining from above... and nothing else in the tank... not even the bobbing scuba guy!

Just be sure its an actual octopus, you wouldn't want to accidently imprison the great Cthulu is a fishtank or anything, that might be bad.
