I know Godfather 2 and 3 were suppose to be released in October. But checking the Paramount site and Amazon, I see no listing of it. Has it been postponed or cancelled? I haven't heard any announcement!
I'm also waiting for Part 2 to be released on the single disc edition. I don't really know why there has been no word on why it wasn't released in October. The date sort of came and went without the release.
Yes you're right Frank. I'm talking about the movie only release. My bad for saying single disc.
I've already got Part 1 and I'm not really interested in the box set because I only really care about Parts 1 & 2. I got the first one for $10 and if I can get Part 2 for around that same price, it would be MUCH cheaper than buying the box set with 2 discs that I don't really want.
I have to ask a question to all of those interested in single-release versions of the first two "Godfather" movies: is Part III really bad enough to justify waiting nearly 4 years and missing out on a great extras disc just to avoid owning it?
Yes, Godfather 3 is THAT bad that I would rather spend MORE money, wait YEARS longer and NOT get a disc of extras just to AVOID having Godfather 3 on my shelf.
Part III is significantly worse than the first two installments but it's not "Dude, Where's My Car?" by a longshot. A good movie may be disappointing when compared to two great movies but it's still a good movie.
To answer your question Bill. I only saw the Trilogy about 2 years ago for the first time (I'm only 20) and I am definately glad that I waited for the single discs. I don't really want to own Part 3 and since I got the first one for under $10 (I should be able to get Part 2 for a similar price) there is a big difference between paying $20 for the only discs you want or paying $40 or $50 for 2 discs you don't really want.
And I thought Part 3 was decent, not good or great. Not worth owning in my opinion.
I held off buying the box set for two years waiting for either the price to drop or individual releases since I did not want to pay for Part III. Eventually I found the box set on sale for $40 (free shipping/no tax), which I consider a very good deal -- remember, we're talking about Godfather I & II. I've never touched the bonus disc, but have listened to the commentaries (even on III), and they are all excellent.
I bought the boxset the week it came out. I think I paid around $68.00 for it which was a pretty good price at the time. However, that was still well over-priced. But, Paramount had the true fans of Godfather I & II by the balls, so it was worth us to pay for it. In essence, I paid $34.00 each for Godfather I & II.
I would actually sell my boxset when Godfather II comes out individually, but it probably wouldn't even be worth selling now that the price is reasonable for it.
