I'm so fed up with Disc Producers who don't program Last Watched Memory onto their discs that I've been resorting to leaving discs on Pause for extended periods. Lately I've been seriously considering leaving them on Pause for far longer but I'm concerned about damage to the discs (or the players themselves) if I do this. Has there been any research that prove Pausing a disc and keeping it on Pause could lead to issues?

As I've gotten older, my ability to stay awake at night has gotten more difficult and pretty much anything I begin to watch after a certain time I have to finish another time. This means that, for many discs, I have to start over. Logos, disclaimers, trailers and all the corporate and legal junk that studios make people sit through - I have to sit through all over again. It's really bad with episodic TV shows (thankfully most are short).

Paramount is the top offender. It's bad enough they make you have to choose a Language just to proceed to the next menu every time you pop a disc in. I mean, even that should be "remembered" by the Player. I just don't get it. Is it hard to implement or something?

So, should I worry about damage to my discs if I leave them on Pause a few hours?

The disc should be fine. The player continues to spin the disc when paused, so it might shorten the life of the player's motor slightly.

A lot of players actually stop spinning after some time. Of course, some also turn off.
