Just unboxed and hooked up my new LG LSS-3200A Sat receiver. Still have the "old" round dish up outside (single LNB /wdual feed). Anyway, checked signal strength thru the receiver setup and it shows that I am getting 92-98 on all 3 sats w/this old dish.

Question: Do I really need the 18x20 w/triple LNBs? Am I interpretting the signal strength numbers incorrectly? Can a single LNB pickup up all 3 sats?

    Thx in advance.

And I am getting the HD channels-no sound yet though!! Will subscribe when I get new monitor!!

You aren't getting the HD channel. You are getting the channel that is on the same frequency as the HD channel but it's on the 101 satellite. Turn to channel 99 and you should see a DirecTV logo if you have access to the 110 satellite. Turn to channel 400 and it will be in Spanish if you have access to the 119 satellite.

Finally, have you been a DirecTV customer for more than 2 years with more than $40/month in programming? If so, you could have gotten the HD deal through them. It's $399 for the receiver, dish and installation. After it's activated they will give you $300 in programming credits. HD for $99. Call them and get transferred to customer retention. They may be able to give you the credit anyway and maybe the dish for cheap.

    Thx Robert,
Was gonna put the 18x20 dish up anyway. I suspect it might take 30 minutes to get it dialed in. Will check channels 99 & 400 as you suggest.

    Robert,
I am getting channel 99 (Cartoon network) and 400 is D* logo. Am getting 401,402,404,405,412,417,420 & others. However am not receiving those up in the 430-450 range.

It should be the Para Tados barker channel (Spanish). Again, channels are on the same frequency but different satellites.

What are you doing about OTA HD? Is Monroe even broadcasting. I know KNOE's tower fell down a few years ago, did they ever build it back?

    Thx Bob,
Like I said I was going to put up the "triple" anyway.

KNOE put the tower back up but it's way south of town - probably 30 miles away. What do you suggest for an OTA antenna? I've got one multistation/tower not 3 miles from the house. Most of the "digital" sources are within 30-40 miles. Am leaning towards a multidirectional in the attic.

I'm originally from southeast Arkansas and my in-laws watched KNOE via antenna. They switched to DirecTV so I didn't know the tower was back up.

    Hey Robert,
Got the "triple" up and it is as you said. Will start looking for an OTA shortly.

    Thx

Robert - Thanks for this tip.

Do you know how long this offer lasts and the quality of the HD receiver.

It's not an official offer since you have to get transferred to the retention department. I think it is in place to keep people from jumping ship to Dish with their free 811 (you get what you pay for) or cable. It could end at any time. Also, if you retention specialist won't offer you the deal, hang up and try again.

With the receiver, you get the new Samsung or Hughes (clone of the Zenith and Sony).

    Robert,

Thanks. I just saw a very similar offer without the programming credits on their website for 399.

That's the official deal that any CSR can give you. Only the retention department can give out program credits.

When you put up that new dish with three LNB's, note that dish rotation is important. I was able to receive two of the three satellites easily with the dish rotation out of whack, but not all three. Then, I discovered the rotation adjustment and dialed it in properly. Voila! HD! (and it's great!)

I had a hell of time getting my triple LNB dialed in even with one of those sat finders. Like Ken mentioned, rotation is very important in getting good signal from all 3 birds.
