The wife finally saw this last night and wants to get it on DVD but will hold off if there is going to be a special edition released in 2005 to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Does anyone know if such an edition is in the works?

The current DVD is apparently from a restored version of the film, is 16x9 enhanced, has a making-of, and the trailer.

Pretty much all of Universal's Hitchcock DVD's are top-notch except for Psycho (4x3 LBX), Vertigo (4x3 LBX), and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1980's version without original Paramount titles and a semi-mediocre print source).

Psycho and Vertigo at least have excellent non-16x9 transfers with plenty of extras. Re-issues would be only to put out new 16x9 remasters, most likely.

The Universal Hitchcock discs are not too bad right now - there are exceptions of course as have been mentioned. I love my Trouble with Harry disc and I'm not sure what they'd do to upgrade it.

Mmm.... Marnie looks terrible, though anamorphic.
