Just curious. A friend of mine wants it, but she does not want to purchase the entire boxset (she bought the old one, but has consented to get the new 2001 and Barry Lyndon discs at my urging). She'd like to see the documentary, and I haven't felt like going over to her place and screening my copy on her Toshiba 56H80/SD-6200-based home theater.

Was this raised in the chat at all? I skimmed over the transcript but didn't notice it.
My suggestion to someone recently on the subject was to purchase the set and sell off the parts they didn't want thru E-bay. He actually ended up paying very little for the individual disc when all was said and done. Not everyone wants to endure the hassle though (myself included). This was after he asked me if he should spend something like $50 to buy the disc through an auction.
Here in Canada, it does show up quite regularly on our pay movie channels. So, if she has cable, she might be able to see it without acquiring the DVD.

http://www.themovie-store.com/ is selling this title as a separate DVD, for $19. I haven't seen anywhere else that stocks it outside of the box set, though.

As I recall, it is available separately from the box set in Japan.

Bill, Movie Central (you're correct, it's only in the west) has been showing it. I know it aired a few times in September. I stumbled over it at least twice.
It also aired on PPV prior to its run on Movie Central.

I remember seeing it on the American premium channel Cinemax. They aired the documentary on the same day the remastered DVD set was released, back in June.
I don't know if they've shown it again since then. Keep an eye on the schedule if you subscribe to that channel...
    Cheers,
