Bad bad news. Not suprising given Alliance's recent track record. They're probably holding off to release a Pan and Scam version. But I haven't heard anything on the U.S. release. Is it still on? If so, I'll have to import it.

Where did you hear it was cancelled? I've heard that it's delayed with no set street date (the U.S. Lion's Gate disc is still on schedule). Alliance have done this several times recently when they can't make the original street date.

Or maybe they did cancel it outright. You never know with them. I just sent a message to their home video department and usually they are quite helpful and prompt, so perhaps they'll be able to give us some information (I HOPE they aren't authoring this disc themselves. *shudder*).

I was told is it was outright cancelled. Not delayed. I'm assistant manager in a video store and got this news from our distributor rep. Also, same deal for "Spider". Cancelled.

This whole Alliance-Atlantis scenario is ridiculous. They're fully capable of managing theatrical exhibitions for the nation but their home video management (minus VHS which they seem to have mastered) is atrocious. I remember the early days of DVD when Alliance would just import American product and affix labels on the cases (long before they started screening custom artwork on discs, adding language tracks, altering packages, telecining PAL transfers, releasing panned and scanned discs at premium prices). Time to import!

I'm still curious to see what their home video department's response will be.

That is...odd, but I was planning to import the Lions Gate version anyway since I knew Alliance was going to screw it up somehow (missing features, transfer from a PAL source). Their home video division is shameful, just flat out shameful.

Damn, this thread scared the hell out of me until I read the Canada part. This is my 4th favorite film of all time, and after seeing it thrice in theaters, I can't wait to get the DVD!

I've heard from Alliance and it seems that there are some "legal issues" preventing this from being released on August 5th (no specifics given, of course). It will be released, but no new release date is known.

Maybe because it's a Lions Gate film and they should be releasing it and not NOT Alliance?

I just got an email from Alliance Customer Service today and she said that she has not heard that it's cancelled. It's simply delayed due to unspecified reasons and no new date has been set yet. But it's NOT cancelled.

The delay might indicate there was a problem obtaining the rights to the supplemental material from Lion's Gate, or obtaining them within a convenient time-frame. Alliance probably planned to do a straight-port of the Lion's Gate disc for the Canadian market (*hopefully*). I'm making assumptions, of course.

Best Case Scenario: it'll be a duplicate of the Lion's Gate disc
Worst Case Scenario: we all know what they are capable of at their worst.

I'll probably just order it from the U.S.

I'm seriously considering a boycott of AA for all eternity. Sure, DVD's from Canada are cheap, but I think my hatred for AA has grown too strong... EVERYTHING about AA irritates me.

Spider is still listed at amazon.ca for next week, are you sure that one is cancelled too?

I see many Canadians saying "I'll order this from the U.S.". It should be noted that when the distributor differs between Canada and the U.S., the U.S. versions are almost always available for pre-order as imports from amazon.ca. The prices are usually very close to those of the Canadian versions, and often they're even cheaper.
