Yep. I use that feature a bit on my iPad running iOS 10.
Is the Beta version open to anyone, or is it invitation only? No, the salesman wasn’t misleading you: iOS 10 *does* feature both “split view” and “slide over”. It’s just that those features are implemented a little differently than in iOS 11. For example, there is no bottom screen tool bar to serve as a convenient launching point for the feature. Also, drag-and-drop between the two apps is not available.
In any event, iOS 11 should be out of Beta no later than mid-September so its avaibility shouldn’t be a deterrent to a iPad Pro purchase.
When I search for MS Office on the App Store I get Word, Excel and PowerPoint and separate apps, I don't see an Office available. They're all free with in app purchases, so I wonder how functional they are with spending any money.By all accounts, Office on the iPad is good. But I wouldn't buy MS Office unless you have specific professional need for it or really want it for you own documents going forward.
Apple's iWork suite is good. And for general notes and miscellany the Notes app is great. There's also Google docs.
From your description it still looks like you can't Markup the original note with the Pencil. A little disappointing. I'll probably end up using another app.I’m running the iOS 11 public beta (now in its third update) on my 9.7” iPad Pro.
I can tell you that the functionality of the Notes app is vastly improved.
At the bottom of each Note — including already defined text Notes — is a “+” symbol. Pressing that invokes a pop up menu with options to include scanned documents, photos, videos, or sketches. If you choose “sketches” you’re taken to a blank page with just the last line of the already defined Note visible at the top. You can then use the Pencil for handwriting or drawing. When you’re finished with your sketch, pressing the “Done” button at the top returns you to the original Note with the new sketch at the bottom. The sketch can then be moved around and placed anywhere you want it in the Note. Pretty nifty!
By the way, scanned documents can be annotated with the Pencil as they are being imported into the Note.
