One of my favorite sci-fi films of all time (and one of the scariest when I was a kid), Invaders From Mars is coming on 12/3 from Image as part of the Wade Williams Collection. The Wade Williams collection usually have very nice transfers so I'm really looking forward to this DVD.
    Here are the extras:
U.S. and Alternate British Versions of the Film; Trailer; Still Gallery; Illustrated Collector's Booklet

Thanks, Jay! I've been adding to my SF collection lately and this will make a nice addition. [IMG]

Let's hope it's not ported over from the laser disc. [IMG]

This was already released, wasn't it? I owned a Wade Williams/Image DVD some years back, and it went out of print. The extras were the same. If this was a restored edition, that would be big news. But I have a feeling this is merely a re-issue of the old DVD, which had absolutely terrible, washed-out color - not even as good as the laser disc. This movie deserves a complete restoration. Maybe commentary from Jimmy Hunt and Helena Carter (if she's still with us).

Leave it to Image Entertainment! That company produces some fine, fine discs. And this is wonderful news, Jay. It's a silly yet delightful little tale steeped in Cold War paranoia. And the eerie movements of the Martian drones is unforgettable. Then, of course, there's that "head Martian" (literally) in the transparent sphere.

Can't wait to get this disc! Is it available for pre-order yet?

I just hope 'ole Wade has sprung for a new picture element for this release (word is that he has the original negative), unlike the Flight to Mars that he recently released. That was a transfer of a splice-filled, well-worn theatrical SuperCineColor print. Too bad he didn't strike a new print (and he definitely does have the Flight to Mars elements, too!) for the DVD.

    Thanks for the link Tony.

After reading the article, I'm a little wary of what this DVD may look like. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

There has been no old Image DVD. The only DVD was a disc from UAV that I doubt was even official.

    Good News!!!

Just got an e-mail from Image entertainment. I e-mailed them asking if this will have the same transfer as the earlier DVD:

"Invaders from Mars is a completely new 35mm transfer of both the American and
alternate British versions. There is also considerably more visual information
visible on each side of the screen, as all previous video transfers (including
    the DVD) were zoomed in."

I sit corrected (blushing, too). I had a visual in my head of the Image logo on the back of the DVD I owned, but this was obviously a false memory. I'm actually glad I was wrong - sounds like this is getting done right.

With Wade Williams' poor track record, I seriously doubt that this disc will be anything special. I'm glad I still have my laserdisc, faults and all. And per my 50 year love affair with this movie, as well as the Savant's analysis, this is far more than just a "silly" movie.

Wade Williams' poor track record?! And just who gave us a restoration of "The Trollenberg Terror" instead of that awful print of "The Crawling Eye" that's been on TV for years? Just who gave us the best Plan 9 from Outer Space disc on the market? Etc., etc.?

Williams' record is spotty, but may be improving if this advance word on IfM is any indication. Just check out the "Flight to Mars" DVD if you need any evidence of his record. That one is especially galling (not because it's a great movie or anything) because he has the materials to make a brand-new print and yet he used a worn-out theatrical print for the DVD!
