Hi Guys,

Lot of interesting and helpful information on this site.

I am looking to build a home theater in my basement. Our basement is 27' x 25' with iron pillars at every 9 feet running right in the middle of the floor.

Instead of creating a dedicated home theater room I am looking to keep the entire space open. Is that a good idea? With young kids I feel that dedicated theater room will take away recreational space.

I will really appreciate if folks here can help me with the following -
1. Basement floor plan
2. Projector
3. Projector screen
4. 7.1 speaker system
5. Receiver
6. Any other ideas to make this a good and reasonably priced recreation space.

Thanks,
Ashish

And, for you, what is "reasonably priced"?
My projector and screen, alone(in a similar situation), was $19,000.
I should have been more clear. I would say my budget for projector, screen, speakers and receivers is 5 to 6K. You must have an awesome system for the kind of money you have spent.

Just middle of the road...

The "avg price" of a home theatre projector is $5000.

Sony and JVC start at $4000.

For your budget...DLP at $1200 gets your feet wet. Good DLP are half your budget, by themselves.
