I set up the e-mail and browser filtersfor my nieces and nephews and I couldn't believe the type of stuff they were getting in their e-mail boxes!!!
They are all under 12yrs and at least half of their junk mail was porn!! As an adult, I am really upset that that stuff is mailed so indiscriminantly. Does my nephew get subscription letters from Hustler or Juggs in the US mail? NO, and he shouldn't be getting it in his AOL or Hotmail either. As mentioned above, the filters are good but not perfect.
BTW: I am not a prude and I certainly have nothing against porn, but I'm talkin' about kids here.

As I've been building up a spam collection in hopes of developing a heuristic spam filter down the road, I've gone through about half of them and found the (rough) breakdown to be as follows:

Money/Business: 25%

Medications & Sex Enhancements (e.g. Viagra): 12%

Porn: 11%

Piracy (copying DVDs): 6%

Spying/Surveillance: 5%

Get out of debt: 5%

Stock tips: 5%

Merchandise: 4%

Drugs (illicit kinds): 4%

Cell Phones: 4%

Loans/Mortgages: 4%

Legal: 3%

Creating your own spam: 1%

Religious: 1%

Real Estate: 1%

Other (lose weight, unknown etc.): 9%

If my analysis is representative of the total quantity of spam, most is about making money or marketing schemes, next is getting prescription drugs, and then porn.

70% ? Nawh.

A simple common sense test: take say a random sample of 10,000 business-to-consumer sites, from all industries and geographic areas, and to get 70% - 7,000 of them would have to be 'porno'. That doesn't seem accurate by a long shot.

And from a statistical point of view, the sample would not even need to be that large to get a rather accurate estimate for the whole web.
