I'm replacing (reluctantly) my S7000 because I just got DTS capability, which the 7000 won't pass. Progressive isn't an issue, since I'm using a first-generation 36XBR200. All I want this player to do is provide great video quality (interlaced only). Regarding audio, I think the only requirement is that it do a good job with the digital bitstream (DD and DTS). Oh yeah, it has to be black, so the RP82 isn't a candidate.

Would I be OK with a Toshiba 2800, or is there something else in the $130 - $200 range that would have better S-video performance with my 36XBR200?

    Thanks.

I have heard that the 2800 outputs a above average interlaced output. I research your requirements also in the newsgroups and the various HT forums last June and went with the Panasonic RP-91. Just about everybody claimed it was the best interlaced and tweak-able player on the market in the sub 1000$ range.
