Isn't the only problem with HD the bandwidth required? I thought the current 4.5GB DVD-Rs could only hold less than 30 minutes HD data.

I'm not sure what else would be a factor. It seems you'd just need a new drive and all existing red laser content would be compatible. Pretty cool, and cheaper!

Correct, it's all digital data. The only limitations for HD media are that it needs to be able to store a large amount of data and retrieve it quickly.
